homeschooling 101

this is what we have studied this week

Africa (learning the countries)
the skeletal system (did you know when you were born you had 300 bones and now you only have 206? cool huh?)
decimals *shudder*
The Gold Rush
vocabulary
cowboys on the range
cooking (big c made spinach lasagna for dinner last night)
levers and motion
purity in the church (bible)
and we are reading Gulliver's Travels together

copying and recognizing letters (that's monkey!)

and it's only wednesday!!

i love to homeschool big c. he is the best kid!! he never complains and is always willing to do the weird schools stuff that i want to do.

well i homeschooled 2nd and 3rd grade then sent him to private school. the elementary program was awesome but the middle school (6th thru 8th) which he started this year was horrible. so i pulled him out at Christmas. so i have been homeschooling this time for about 6 weeks. but remember my father in law died and we had to recoup from that. so really about 4 weeks. but we love it. even monkey has asked if he can be homeschooled. (he starts kindergarten in the fall)

Awwww, decimals are easy, it's those stupid fractions and LCD's that will melt your brain!

@Melek - Yeah, I still can't do Roman numerals. With out the Superbowls over the years I would not even know the few I do.

Exponents! That's what kills me--exponents!

I think it's so wonderful that you home school your kids. What a wonderful way to deepen the bonds with them.

Ahhhh. I was kind of thinking it was fairly new. I really admire you. I love the idea of it, but I just know how bad I am at sticking to a schedule...I'm afraid my kids would end up with a half-ass education. At least in public school where they are, they get a half-ass education, and I get a break during the day.

However, I do collect antique textbooks partly because I love them, and partly because I have this "what if" mentality and feel I'd better be prepared.

Forget decimals, it's fractions that suck!

Everytime Isaac brings home 4th grade math now I am petrified for years to come. I would not be doing my kids a favor by homeschooling, but your kids are lucky! I want to come to YOUR school!
